GUIMBRETIERE, Elisabeth
The article draws on research and teaching practice in the fields of phonetics and the pedagogy of pronunciation training.
Some of the research puts renewed focus on contrastive analysis. It then raises interest as to the ways in which it will proceed and the types of teaching practices it will advocate.
Other research uses information technology and develops teaching/learning activities aiming at improving linguistic competence. The question will be raised whether these activities correspond to the cognitive operations at play in the learning process, and whether the typology of teaching activities has evolved.
The article will also examine the contribution that research in experimental phonetics can make to the teaching and the learning of pronunciation. Lastly, it touches upon new perspectives for the teaching of intonation/prosody.
