ASPECTS LEXICAUX DE L’ACQUISITION ‘NATURELLE’ ET DE L’APPRENTISSAGE ‘ARTIFICIEL’ EN L2

BOULTON, Alex

In studying L2 vocabulary development, it is not always easy to define the appropriate point or points of comparison with the monolingual adult native speaker and/or with the child in the process of L1 lexical development. In this article, we look at the literature on contrastive aspects of ‘natural’ acquisition and ‘artificial’ learning processes. In particular, we analyse the relative advantages of contextualised learning on the one hand, and deliberately-deployed decontextualised learning strategies on the other in L2 lexical development.
