APPRENANT EN LANGUE OU APPRENTI LECTEUR ?

Learning to read in a foreign language has always been considered as belonging to the field of language teaching. But there is a case for viewing the learner as training in reading too : this article analyses the reasons, drawn from research (mostly psycholinguistic) on the reading process, that lead us to consider the learner as an "apprentice reader", and those, stemming mainly from works about nature of written discourse, that make us continue to regard him as a language learner. It concludes that learning to read in a foreign language is a specific task which draws its characteristics from the three dimensions of the learning situation : the foreign language, the reading process, and the learner himself.
