UNE FORME D’EDUCATION GLOBALE : L’EDUCATION INTERCULTURELLE

This article considers the pedagogic implications of intercultu-ral education. In planning any such programme, a number of different points related to the nature of "culture" need to be kept constantly in mind, since they bear directly on choices and decisions concerning objectives, syllabus and methodology. These include :

(1) The notion of culture is indissociable from the individual

(2) The individual’s culture is not a monolithic block, but something he shares in varying degrees with others.

(3) The acquisition of a culture is creative and progressive.

The aim of intercultural education should therefore be the acquisition of an "intercultural culture". This is not a "subject" to be taught, but a set of values and attitudes to be put into prac-tice by teachers and learners alike.
