A group of Indonesian students was judged to have insufficient French to cope successfully with the course in industry on which they were about to embark. With only three days’ teaching available, what could be done to help these learners acquire the oral skills they needed ? Clearly it would have been impossible to learn the skills in such a short space of time, so the decision was taken to show the learners how they could take charge of their learning activities themselves. This training course is des-cribed and explained and examples of the materials used are given.
