LE FRANCAIS LANGUE D’ENSEIGNEMENT UNIVERSITAIRE EN TUNISIE ET A MADAGASCAR : COMPTE RENDU DE DEUX ACTIONS DE FORMATION

CARTON, Francis / DUDA, Richard / CEMBALO, Sam Michel

This paper describes the development of two training programs for teachers involved with the problem of French as a Language for Academic Purposes and draws tentative conclusions on the development of the concept of "Français Langue d’Enseignement Universitaire (F.L.E.U.)" . The countries concerned are Madagascar and Tunisia. Each program is described in terms of the background situation and the problems met with by students, the training scheme developed and the types of teachers involved. In Madagascar, the teachers taking part in the scheme are science teachers who train their students in the use of French, whereas in Tunisia, they are teachers of French. A short description of the curricula is given and recommendations concerning the implementation of training in French for Academic Purposes are put forward as a result of the experience gained from these two training schemes.
