REPRESENTATIONS DE L’ECRIT DANS LE DISCOURS DES ANIMATEURS D’UN CONCOURS D’ECRITURE POUR ADULTES EN INSECURITE SCRIPTURALE

ADAMI, Hervé

The training of poorly educated adults has developped on the assumption that access to culture is an inalienble right for all. Culture, however, is first and foremost based on writing and some people have no access to it because they do not possess the necessary skills. Scripturally challenged adults are confronted with tremendous difficulties, especially with regard to writing. They are socially and institutionally considered illiterate. Adult trainers bring their own representations of writing and culture to the didactic and pedagogical issues under consideration. They spoke about their representations during a writing competition and this paper provides and analysis of their polyphonic discourse.

For them writing is both the place and the means for expressing emotion and subjectivity. It is also a technical and normative device that needs to be mastered. Their representations are based upon a covert reference to legitimate culture where literature matters most. The teaching procedures they adopt and their pedagogical experiments bear witness to this subjective relationship to writing.
